Old Warwickians

2013 OW Rugby

2013 marked the first blip in the annual Coton Cup. Sadly, Old Silhillians were unable to get together a team, which left 20 Warwick players with no opponent. Undeterred by the lack of Silhillian brawn, it was agreed that an U22 team (herein: 'the boys') led by Tommy Jones, would take on their older counterparts (‘the gentlemen’), under the stewardship of Jamie Collins in a ten-a-side contest.

True to the form book, the gentlemen were able to gain a strangle-hold on the game using their superior wit and strength and, at half time, led by three scores, 24-5. However after the break, with their heroes of yesteryear tiring, the boys were able to take full advantage, running in four unanswered tries. A late dart over from the gentlemen notwithstanding, the boys maintained their lead to suggest that “it's not the size of the dog in the fight but the size of the fight in the dog” (Nasey 2005-). Thanks to Freddie Dixon for organising, Tom Pierce for refereeing, the school for hosting the match and the catering staff for the fine food in the marvelous new pavilion.
