New Head Master of Warwick School

The opportunity to lead Warwick School, one of the most outstanding schools in the country, attracted an exceptional field of educationalists.

Now, following a comprehensive and rigorous process that started in August, it gives me the greatest of pleasure to announce Mr James Barker as the new Head Master of Warwick School.

James Barker is well-known to the Warwick community, having spent his formative years here as a teacher before returning as Deputy Head (Co-curricular), Senior Deputy Head and, more recently, as Acting Head.

A Philosophy graduate from the University of Cardiff, his school leadership journey began as Head of Sixth Form at Abingdon School before moving to be Assistant Head at RGS Worcester.

As an Old Warwickian, James Barker’s commitment to Warwick School and the Foundation community is absolute, as is his determination to ensure that every pupil achieves at the highest possible level in all that they do. His vision for Warwick is compelling, building on its undoubted strengths but being restless in the pursuit of excellence in every aspect of school life.

James Barker will bring great energy and determination to his headship; I know the Warwick community will embrace his appointment as he leads the school into an exciting future.

You may also be aware that a parallel process has taken place at King’s High. I am equally pleased to let you know that Dr Stephen Burley, currently Deputy Head (Academic), has been appointed Head of King’s High School.

This is an important time for the Foundation.  I look forward to seeing the schools working together and sharing the best of each other, to fulfil the truly unique ‘Best of Both Worlds’ experience for all our pupils.
