Old Warwickians

John Bryan Lucas (WS 1941-51)

L. Ian Weaver writes: “JB” Lucas died on 22 May 2010.  He was born on 12th March 1932, entered Warwick School on 18th September 1941 and left, as I did, in July 1951. I think that, at the date of his leaving, he was the oldest in the school. He spent some three years in the Science 6th.

John was always industrious, became a sub prefect and was a good athlete. He did National Service in the RAF and trained as an air traffic controller. After National Service he joined Courtaulds Ltd as a laboratory technician, specializing in rayon development. During this time, via part time study, he became an Associate of the Textile Institute (ATI). From Courtaulds he moved to the Luton Knitting Co. in a management capacity, and later to a dyeing company in Nottingham, of which he was a director.

While at Courtaulds, John met and married Sheila Ebberrell, with whom he lived extremely happily until his death. They had a son (Tim) and daughter (Clare). For his last 27 years John and Sheila lived in Southwell, where John was an active member of a local choral society and also the Minster Choir.
