A predominantly young OW side met at Denstone College for the 1^st round fixture.

Denstone won the toss, elected to bat and got off to a brisk start before Byrd, Dellow and Dixon slowed the tempo. Reynolds (I) and Williams also bowled well.

Denstone accumulated to 172-4 off 30 overs when Reynolds (I) captured the important wicket of Kirkham (48) caught Byrd. OWs took the next 5 wickets for only 55 runs, Denstone finishing on 227 all out in 44.1 overs.

Wickets were shared by: Dellow 10 overs, 2 maidens, 29 runs for 2 wickets, Byrd 7-2-19-2, Dixon 10-0-58-2, I Reynolds 7.1-0-36-2 and T Williams 5-0-28-2. Byrd took 3 good catches and S Reynolds kept wicket very competently.

In reply OWs started cautiously against last year’s opening attack. The openers and No 3 fell early before Byrd (38) established a platform with support from Dixon (37) and latterly, S Reynolds (11). Burrows (13) also contributed. OWs finished on 155 after 41.5 overs.
