Andy Tyler (WS 1963-71)

Andy Tyler, one of the most influential figures in sailing in Cornwall, died in Bristol in March 2011, aged 57, from complications following a traumatic aortic rupture.

Originally a property developer from Birmingham, he moved to St Mawes, where, as clubhouse manager, he turned it into the largest and most successful sailing club in the South West of England.

He subsequently worked at the Victory Inn at St Mawes, the Chain Locker at Falmouth, Truro, and at the Green Room in Redruth until a few months before he died.

Gail Dingle, his partner of seven years, said: "He had an enthusiasm and zest for life and a passion for whatever he did which just rubbed off on other people.”
