Old Warwickians

2012 The Cricketer Trophy - Semi Final

First Round
Lancing Rovers forfeited the game as they were unable to raise a side for the re-arranged match.

Semi-Final
The Semi-Final took place on 22 July against Old Hurstjohnians (last year’s winners) at Warwick.

OWs won the toss and elected to field. Jack Atkins bowled the opener with the 3rd ball of the day! OHs accumulated steadily to 33-1 off 10 overs when Tommy Williams took an impressive diving catch at extra cover off the bowling of Jonathan Byrd to dismiss the other opener.

OHs Captain, Harrison joined No. 3 bat, Jarvis, hero of last year’s final and the pair put on 57 and started to threaten before Harrison (30) fell to Ed Melly, caught Ben Howard on the mid wicket boundary when the total was 90 in the 22nd over.

OHs struggled to 180 all out in the 47th over with Atkins, Melly and Byrd sharing the spoils and Harris delivering two wickets in as many balls.

OWs bowled and fielded well. Wickets were shared as follows: Atkins 2-30 (8 overs), Harris 2-16 (8 overs), Byrd 2-50 (10 overs), E Melly 3-34 (10 overs), Dellow 1-40 (10 overs).

Opening up, Crockert (38) and James Cumberland (71) put on 74 in 13 overs, setting the tone with some entertaining shots. T Williams (13), K Chhibber (not out 19) and B Howard (not out 15), finished the job in the 37th over.

A win for OWs by 7 wickets.

Thanks to groundsman Garry and his team for all their valiant efforts and hard work throughout the summer’s bad weather to ensure that this vital game took place.

Final
The final takes place at Charterhouse on Sunday 12 August, against last year’s runners-up, Denstone Wanderers.
