2011 Autumn Golf Meeting

Broadway Golf Club, 16 Sept 2011
14 OWs signed up for our autumn golf day at Broadway GC. Although we missed some of our regulars, we were delighted to welcome a few old friends not seen at an OW golf day before – namely David Tandy, Phil Cooper (an OW master) and Iain Simmons.

OW Tankards
With 14 golfers contesting the OW Tankards in the morning, we had a one 2-ball followed by three 4-balls. A high standard of foursomes golf provided for tight competition. The eventual winners of two lovely tankards and two golf balls were Clive Mather and Phil Cooper on 43 pts. Congratulations to both on playing some wonderful golf. Runners-up, on 41 pts, were James Cumberland and Malcolm Lines.

OW Salver
After a superb lunch we continued the day with the usual afternoon format of an individual stableford, played off 7/8 handicap. The greens were tricky and some found the going a little tough.

Winner, on 38 pts: James Cumberland (possibly our youngest ever winner).
Second, on 37 pts: Chris (no surprise) Kaye.
Third, on 37 pts (lost on count back): Phil Cooper.

Golfer of the Year 2011
Winner, on 74 pts: James Cumberland.
Second, on 67 pts: Peter Baird.
Third, on 66 pts: Geoff Thorpe.

The evening meal was tremendous and, with Alan Alderman performing his duties, everyone went home happy, if not loaded with silverware!
