Old Warwickians

2024 OWA President's Dinner

Saturday 13 April 2024
The Indian Army Memorial Room at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst

OWA President 2024 Brig James Cook OBE (WS 1982-89) invites Old Warwickians and their wives/partners to join him in the Indian Army Memorial Room at RMA Sandhurst on Saturday 13 April 2024.

The Indian Army Memorial Room (IAMR) was initially dedicated as a museum in 1950 to preserve the history of the British Indian Army. After the Indian Independence Act was passed and the British Indian Army disbanded in 1947, there was a call to preserve its heritage. Since its inception, the IAMR has also been a focal point for cadets at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, upon both arrival and commission. The significance of the shared history between Great Britain and South Asia remains of great importance to their training, as well as their understanding of the role of the British Army today.  Recently refurbished, the National Army Museum has reinvigorated the historic Indian Army Memorial Room with a new commemorative display with many previously unseen items from its collection.

Security, travel and parking
All attendees will need to bring photo ID (passport or driving licence) to enter RMA Sandhurst.

If you are travelling by car, you will need to provide your car registration to Alumni Relations before the event. Access to RMAS is via the main 'Staff College' gate only, this is on the A30 opposite the Premier Inn, nearest postcode GU15 3PL. Car passes will be issued on arrival. Parking will be in Old College HQ Car Park (a map will be provided with your car pass).

If you are travelling by taxi, please note only RMAS security cleared taxi firms are allowed into the grounds. We will provide a list of these companies and their phone numbers when confirming your booking.

A Johnson’s minibus to and from Warwick School may be available if there is sufficient demand but please note it would leave Warwick School at 16:00 and is not expected to arrive back until 00:45. Costs will range from £66 per person if ten people book, to £37 if 18 people book.

Accommodation
If you are staying overnight, there are lots of local hotel options. The closest is the Premier Inn on the A30 opposite the main ‘Staff College’ gate (this is Premier Inn Camberley, not Sandhurst). Other suggestions are the Travelodge by Camberley Station or Frimley Manor Hotel. Please note when booking a hotel that you will be required to enter RMA Sandhurst through the main Staff College gate (A30) only and no access will be permitted through College Town Gate.
